Wim Hof is a Dutch world record holder, adventurer and daredevil, commonly nicknamed the Iceman for his ability to withstand extreme coldness. He holds nine world records including a world record for longest ice bath. Hof describes his ability to withstand extreme cold temperatures as being able to “turn his own thermostat up” by using his mind.
Wim learned his own method by the teachings of nature. He has already ran marathons barefoot and climbed the biggest mountains on earth in shorts. Wim believes that by practicing breathing and having a certain amount of cold exposure can make you control your immune system. At 56 years old, he looks strong, fit, lean and healthy and he certainly moves like a young man.
He says that “We are far more capable than we think. We have our own healing power and 2000 years ago it was already known. We are dependent on outside forces and if we open our mind and be more conscious of this inner power, we can prevent disease”.
Wim says the benefits of learning to control your autonomic nervous system are;
- Influence on the immune system
- influence on your mind
- improvement of blood circulation
- improvement of concentration
- A greater confidence and a conscious development
It’s amazing what he has learnt to do through breathing and mind control. It does make you think what illnesses and other metabolic diseases we could prevent or at least help if we could all learn to do what he does.
