A recent post on Robb Wolf’s Paleo blog is about a former vegetarian who developed an underactive thyroid leaving her with allergies, and feeling sluggish all the time. After food sensitivity testing results showed she couldn’t tolerate wheat, corn or SOY, she altered her vegetarian diet to avoid these foods. Her symptoms didn’t improve until finally her doctor subscribed small amounts of the thyroid drug Synthroid.
Wanting to come of Synthroid medication, she discovered the Paleo diet and followed Robb’s version in the Paleo Solution. After her thyroid levels returned to the normal range, her doctors allowed her to come off the drugs. A recent blood test showed further improvement in her thyroid levels without the help of medication which she attributes to the Paleo diet.
