The Men Who Made Us Fat

Thursday 14 June on BBC Two at 9.00 – 10.00pm

It is shocking that two thirds of British adults are overweight and one in four of us is classified as obese. In the first of this three part series, Jacques Peretti travels to America to investigate the story of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).

40 years ago HFCS found its way into mostly processed food and soft drinks which is not only bad for your health but interferes with your leptin signals. “Fat” was and is blamed for the increase of cardiovascular disease, at the time the food industry responded by bringing out many “low fat” products which remove all the fat but are loaded with sugar. This has had devastating effects on the increase in obesity.
