Alec Baldwin has lost 30 pounds in less than 4 months and he’s done it through eating a low carb Paleo diet. He chose to avoid sugar, starch and dairy (some Paleo eaters do eat dairy). He admits that sugar was the problem for him and was hard cutting it out. On Here’s the Thing from WNYC Radio, Alec Baldwin interviews Dr. Robert Lustig. In the interview Dr. Lustig explains that “eating sugar drives insulin and the higher your insulin goes the hungrier you get”. He also describes the hormone in your stomach that signals hunger called Ghrelin and when Ghrelin’s high you’re hungry and sugar doesn’t knock it down.
Alec Baldwin says when he told people he cut out bread, pasta and sugar people couldn’t understand why and thought he was insane. Baldwin goes on to say that he was always thin and he thought that going vegetarian would be the best thing for him health-wise but it was at that point where he blew up.
According to a recent study, U.S. adults consume 22.2 teaspoons of sugar a day. If people try to give up fat in the diet, it would be easy but if people try to give up sugar it’s a lot harder. This is because sugar has addictive properties and is easy to over eat on it.
